After receiving the IS-B5OLU-C0 - 2 Kw Model for Review and Testing, the first thing I noticed was the Quality and Weight.
It is very well made, with high quality components.
Good, clear installation instructions (easy to understand and follow). You simple connect the Polyphaser unit in your coax using normal PL-259 connectors. There is a specific side for your radio and a side for your antenna. This information is printed right on the Polyphaser unit.
These units are dc blocked and will NOT show a continuity path.
Therefore, using an ohm meter, the center conductor will show OPEN. THIS IS NORMAL! That is how the Polyphaser isolates your radio from your antenna line during a strike. This will still allow your power to pass with no effect.
My Impression is that this is one of the finest products made.
These are commercial quality units designed and used by radio professionals worldwide. These Professional Technicians demand the best quality products.
As for the Testing part, I hope I never have to find out, but the piece of mind these will give me is Priceless.
And knowing that they will take Multiple strikes makes them even better.
|I maintain equipment that has been subjected to multiple strikes over many years, and despite this, the equipment still continues to function as normal. The equipment itself was never aware of the strike. It stayed on the air through the entire ordeal. - Tech 833|
PolyPhaser recommends the coax, power, and telephone protectors, if used, all be mounted / grounded together on a bulkhead plate or wall and the equipment chassis also be grounded ONLY to this plate.
The small tab on the Polyphaser unit can be used for this purpose if a copper ground bus plate is not used in the system.
Simply connect a large gauge copper conductor from this tab to your ground rod.
Use a minimum of 10-gauge wire for this conductor. Copper strap is best.
The plate is then grounded to your ground system.
Only by using this Single Point ground system can your equipment really survive a direct lighting strike.
These Units also have a:
LIMITED TEN YEAR WARRANTY
(Repair, Replacement, or Refund of purchase price)
I would like to Thank, Tech833 for helping me in this review with his valuable information, and his personal evaluation of these fine products over the years.
