anybody have any sugguestions on how to pump up the power on a cobra 29 LTD radio . what would be a good amp .I have it hooked up to a valor omnidirectional base antenna half wave. tuned for 27.205 mhz out of the box. I had this radio for about 12 years .It was peaked when i bought it . I used to use it in my truck . Now i put it in my house . Is there anything that can help?
I also just purchased a astatic power mic with tone control. I would like to start dxing . but maybe i got the wrong antenna or the radio needs help . I can talk around town fine but thats about it.

Try these for the Cobra 29 LTD...
Re-tune L14,L13,L12 for maximum forward power.
Re-tune coils L10,L9,L8 for maximum forward Power
L11 is the TVI trap. DO NOT adjust!!!
VR1 RF Gain
VR2 S Meter
VR5 RF Power Meter
If you're into AM DXing you will probably need an amplifier of some sort. The mods above probably will not help at all for AM DXing. Or you can invest in a SSB radio and do some SSB DXing. I am not familiar with the antenna you are talking about but Copper sells the Solarcon A-99 for less than $40 and makes a very good omnidirectional base antenna. I have also heard that the Army Big Stick works quite well and is rumoured to have "better ears".

Depending on where you want your power and modulation to be depends on how you turn the slugs. Try to write down or remember where their original settings were so you can restore them to original if needed.
