I have a Kenwood TS-480HX and I set it side by side to my Kenwood TS-2000 and I hate to admit it but I had better recieve with the TS-480. Alot less hash and trash and much easier to adjust the DSP for a even cleaner signal. I had great audio reports and went to the AM mode and was complmented on my audio with a stock mic,,,I find that kinda BS with the stock mic but I wont turn the compliment down I have yet to install it in my mobile which is my intentions and I will post my findings. I ASSume though that the RX will blow away the RX of my Icom 706 MKIIG,,,,TIME WILL TELL,,,,,,

DSP radios have impressed me. Now that DSP at the I.F. level is common, performance has taken a giant leap. Wait until the J-FET I.F. and front end radios hit the market. Wow!

Yes, that is true. However, the prototype J-FET Motorola radio I have can hear things clearly that my Kenwood would never pick out of the noise. The receive selectivity is amazing. On the order of this technology making receiver filters on repeaters a thing of the past. Even with a high powered transmitter on the same tower, the receiver is not desensed and is just as clear on weak signals as when the transmitter is off. Amazing!

548, have you had an opportunity to use an 870-s? I had one of those a couple years ago (BIG Kenwood fan) and althought, I admit, I'm not impressed with DSP all that much, I LOVED the rig. Notch filter was wonderful! Sounded awesome and I've had a few Kenwoods. So my question is...befroe I go too far off track..if you've used an 870, what's your thoughts on side by side to the 480?

FT100D can blow away 706 easily. I had 480 with my 870 on the same dest, and I like 870 more. Especially transmit audio bandwidth. Mike

They had enough problems with the FT 100's that I would be afraid to try one, the 706 has a much better record so far. I still have my trusty Kenwood 850, and love the radio!

FT-100D NOT RECOMENED I have one and it was not widely produced and quckly discontinued. Go with the 706 I'll bet in 5 years you will not even find parts for the FT100D!
